Artist's Comments
Rote used to be white. Pure white. White mane, tail, body, even his horn was a crystal pure. When he forsook the warning of his fellows and took of the bloodred tree his body contorted, turning his glistening mane into rust, his tail into dried blood. Bloodred roots exploded from his skin, wrapping around his once white hide, turning it a dull grey. A thorny sapling burst out of his forehead and enveloped his gorgeous clear horn, turning it a pulsing, throbbing crimson. Red filled his eyes and his hooves leaked the red of the bloodred tree. He was tainted.
